Caring for Your Floor at Christmas

Introduction to Christmas Floor

No doubt it’s the most wonderful time of the year for you, but not so much for your floors… From the fallen Christmas trees needles, to the dripping of turkey fat, to the scraping of chairs and the chaos of excited kids, your poor floor can take a real beating at yule tide. Luckily, there are some nifty things that you can do to protect your beloved floor this Christmas, check it out!

Oh, Christmas Tree

Nothing beats a real Christmas tree at home, from the smell to the character it provides a room. However, a real Christmas tree can cause damage to your floor in multiple ways. Firstly, do not overwater your tree, as excess water can easily seep into your carpet and cause mold or seep into your wood and laminate and cause warping. Secondly, vacuum up those needles. Aside from being painful to step on, the green from the needles have been known to transfer onto lighter colored carpets and stain. Three, don’t drag the tree in. Get someone to help you carry the tree into position. Fourthly, why not lay festive rug underneath the tree or even old wrapping paper as an extra layer of protection for your floor? If you do these things, you can enjoy a wonderful real Christmas tree this season and keep your floors in pristine condition.

Merrymakers

People can damage your floor accidently, but thankfully there are a few precautions you can take. Firstly, request for shoes off. If needed, ask your guests to bring indoor slippers with them to wear inside. Secondly, felt pad your furniture. If you have real wood floors in particular, a pack of stick on felt furniture pads is an inexpensive way to protect your floor from scratches. Thirdly, a festive rug might be a worthwhile investment, particularly if you have excitable kids over for Christmas because somehow something always ends up getting broken!

Brussel Sprouts and Eggnog

Food and drink spillages are a nightmare for your floor at anytime of the year, but more so at Christmas because the food and drink at this time of year tends to be more decadent. Firstly, sweep and mop food spillages as soon as they occur. Also, soak up and vacuum drink spillages as soon as possible too, to dry out the floor. Secondly, try and stay sober to avoid unnecessary accidents… but let’s be honest that’s not going to happen! So fourthly, keep serviettes and dustpans on hand to deal with any accidents quickly and effectively, so the merriment may continue with minimal interruption!

Conclusion to Christmas Floor

With Santa Claus coming to town soon, by following these tips, you can prepare your home for an enjoyable festive season, whilst keeping your floors in tip top condition.
