Best Flooring Choices for a Laundry Room

One of the most used, but least thought of rooms in the house is the laundry room.  Depending on the size of your family, you may be using the laundry room every single day!  And for this reason it shouldn’t be left as an afterthought.  Because no one really likes taking care of the laundry, making the room a little more attractive can make doing the laundry feel a little less like a chore.  Having flooring material that’s not only comfortable underfoot, but also aesthetically appealing is a good place to start.  In this article we’ll go over the best flooring choices for a laundry room.

Natural Stone

Stone is not only incredibly durable, it’s great looking as well.  You’ll also have plenty of options.  Slate, limestone and marble are only a few of the choices available to you.  Once properly sealed it’ll be water and stain resistant – which is important in a laundry room.  For the height of elegance, stone should be your first choice.

Vinyl is not only extremely durable, it’s a very economical option as well.  Vinyl is naturally waterproof which makes it ideal for a room where water spills are always a possibility.  It’s also soft underfoot which can make ironing and folding laundry a little less tiresome.

It wasn’t too long ago that laminate flooring would never be used in a room where the possibility of spills and splashes was so high.  But advances in manufacturing have come up with not only water resistant laminate flooring, but waterproof laminate flooring as well.  You can now have a beautiful wooden floor in every room in your house.

Similar to laminate flooring, it wasn’t that long ago that it would be unthinkable to install hardwood in a room that experienced such moisture and humidity swings.  But new technologies led to the introduction of waterproof hardwoods in 2019.  These hardwoods feature a unique sealant that prevents water from penetrating into the wood.  That said, unlike traditional hardwood planks you won’t be able to sand them down and refinish them while still expecting them to remain waterproof.
